What in the world are you thinking, Think Tank?
The true purpose of a think tank is to bring change by raising awareness on key economic and societal issues that should result in strengthening human relationships, current affairs and fair policy. Examples in our nation are the Brookings Institution, the Aspen Institute, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, as well as about 45 others.
Including The Heritage Foundation (THF) which once was one of the most influential public policy organizations in the USA, and for all the right reasons that benefited everyone. It served well in the Reagan, GHW Bush, Clinton, GW Bush, and Obama Administrations. Then it chose to make a hard right turn to usher in an attack on our civil rights - and Earth science. The THF rejects science that supports human caused greenhouse gas emissions. This so-called ‘think tank’ has authored, by individual loyalists to the Republican nominee, what is known as Project 2025, and one of its main ingredients is a mission to install conservative political appointees above federally employed climate scientists.
Yes, hard to believe, I know. Please track Project 2025, for if implemented, our country will convert to an authoritarian form of leadership. Based in Washington, D. C. and founded in 1973, the Republican group wishes to increase its party nominee’s control over the executive branch of our government in an effort to embrace reversed ideology towards the climate crisis. Many Republican voters are not yet alarmed about global warming, which provides the foundation of why Project 2025 is so lethal against our efforts to address climate change.
Think about this: There is actually a divided America when it comes to whether or not climate change is a real threat. This is due to the fact that the majority of the right embraces economic importance over active extreme weather, heat, damage and destruction. It is difficult to imagine given the ten hottest global years over the last 160,000 years occurred this past decade. It’s even harder to reconcile when considering 2023 was the hottest year during that same time period, and 2024 will most likely surpass that! Given the fact that the majority of humankind is ignited enough over global warming to appreciate the fact that, in 2023, an astonishing 30% of worldwide electricity came from clean energy sources.
But some of that divided minority is all for the drafting of about 900 pages called Project 2025 which will impact 100% of our nation’s population. The document proposes many changes to be brought on by a right-leaning conservative administration and it has gained considerable national attention because, among other negatives, it demonstrates a desire to roll back federal regulations that were implemented to reduce greenhouse gas pollution. Not only that, these climate deniers seek to marginalize whatever they can in relation to federal industrial waste control - including other toxic chemicals. Without a second thought! The national Environmental Protection Agency is centered square in the bullseye of the Project 2025 target. And this is the agency that rescued America from an over saturation of smog, pesticide, industrial pollutants, asbestos and lead. The EPA also solidified our Clean Air Act by limiting the big oil and gas industry’s release of poisonous emissions that BOG has been burping the past 65 years.
This dreaded Project 2025 document projects control over those regulatory actions by diminishing the EPA’s authority. The right block insists that BOG, big oil and gas, must flourish without any regard for the short and long term consequences of climate change - all in the name of money, money, money! Gross revenue. Profits over people.
Around the world, truly unthinkable in most people’s minds. Without a lick of low income humanitarian consciousness, the far-right think tank Republican authors of the Project will literally go after the abolishment of the EPA’s goal of environmental justice by appointing a political thinker to be a “science advisor” for the purpose of reorganizing the EPA’s research capabilities. And since these political science skeptics doubt there’s an emissions issue, they even plan on reevaluating the impact of greenhouse gas on public health.
The bottom line, they want to reorganize the EPA so that it will maximize the economic success of oil and gas. Sadly, the U.S. is the world leader in refinery production and Project 2025 aims to disempower any control over its pollutants - before renewable energy takes over next decade.
Lately, there have been some new developments pertaining to this outrage. The Republican presidential candidate has heavily criticized it (written much by his followers) and as a result, the leader of the doctrine resigned from The Heritage Foundation. At the same time, THF says the work will continue (while in a hiding mode). You can be sure, if the prior President is in charge after the 11/5 election, he will reconsider what Project 2025 has to recommend > “Drill while we can.”
